Maertens Fine Jewelry & Gifts

The Bay Collection

The Bay Collection is our most expansive exclusive collection. It includes Heather Maertens first creation, Seahorses by the Bay. It has grown to include many pieces of jewelry to commemorate our area. Heather Maertens is a Calvert County native, and has grown up on the Chesapeake Bay. Many of the pieces in this collection were created to benefit some of the organizations that serve our local area.

The Arc Sailboat

The Arc has been serving Southern Maryland since 1975 – they believe in promoting independence and personal success for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to give them as much control of their own lives as possible. Heather Maertens too believes in their cause and was eager to help when asked to create a piece of jewelry for their annual awards dinner. Heather created their logo, a sailboat in two sizes to be worn as a pendant or as a tie tack, in sterling silver. With their permission, she added the sailboat to her Bay Collection and donates 15% of the proceeds from each piece sold back to the Arc of Southern Maryland.

Seahorses by the Bay

The seahorse collection was created by Heather Maertens to benefit the Seahorses by the Bay project. The pendant she made was originally craved from a block of wax and is a miniature replica of the five foot tall seahorse statues that were created for the Seahorses by the Bay project. The Seahorse project was a collaborative public art project between Annmarie Garden and Calvert County Schools, both public and private, to raise money for the County’s school’s art programs. The seahorse pendant is available in two sizes and also as a charm and as earrings. The collection is available in sterling silver or 14kt gold (yellow, white, and rose) and with your choice of gemstone accent set in the eye. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from each sale are donated to the Seahorses by the Bay project.

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse pendant was created by Heather Maertens at the request of the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce. The chamber’s logo is a lighthouse and Heather inspired by the history of lighthouses created a pendant to add to her collection. Heather’s lighthouse is available in sterling silver, 14kt yellow gold and in 14kt yellow gold with diamond accents. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from each sale are donated to the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce.

The Parkers Creek Collection

Maertens Fine Jewelry & Gifts collaborated with the American Chestnut Land Trust to create a collection of jewelry to benefit the organization. The American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) protects over 3,000 acres of wetlands, forest and farmland in rapidly developing Calvert County, Maryland. The crown jewel of the land trust is Parkers Creek. The Calvert Cliffs and sandy shoreline in the vicinity of the mouth of Parkers Creek look much the same today as they did 400 years ago when Captain John Smith explored the Chesapeake Bay. A visitor today can still paddle a canoe over a mile and a half through unspoiled salt marshes and wooded freshwater wetlands and see little sign of human activity. The Parkers Creek Collection features pendants and bracelets in sterling silver accented with the outline of Parkers Creek. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the sale of the Parkers Creek Collection are donated to the ACLT to help them continue to conserve land in Calvert County.

The Blue Heron

The blue heron was created by Heather Maertens to benefit the Blue Heron project. The heron was originally carved from a block of wax in two parts to allow the piece to be cast in combinations of metals. The blue heron is a miniature replica of the five foot tall heron statues that were created for the Blue Heron project. The Blue Heron project was a public art project to benefit St. Mary’s County Public Schools. The herons are available as a pendant or as a brooch. You choose sterling silver or 14kt gold or a combination of the two. Each heron is accented with a blue sapphire set in the eye. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from each sale are donated to the Blue Heron Project.
