All gems are phenomenal, but only some gems have phenomena. This special characteristic is unique to only a hand full of gemstones. Some exceptional opals have play of color, some amazing pearls exhibit orient, and a few gemstones change color.
When thinking of a gemstone that changes color, Alexandrite is what comes to mind. It may come as a surprise that there is another gemstone that will rival Alexandrite for that “fine color change” that is so unique….and that gemstone is Garnet.
This Color Change Garnet is being mined in Kenya. When evaluated for color alone, even an expert might think this was an Alexandrite. Under incandescent light this Garnet will appear a fine purplish red color and under fluorescent light will appear a fine bluish green color.
The supply on this specific type of color change garnet is very limited, making it very attractive to any collector. Looks about as close to an Alexandrite as I’ve ever seen! Beautiful gem!
