Breakfast at Sniffany’s was founded by Heather Maertens as a carefree brunch to benefit local animal shelters. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite four legged friends and enjoy a bountiful buffet featuring food from local restaurants as well as a doggie treat buffet, a silent auction and raffle.
Breakfast at Sniffany’s has raised nearly $10,000 since 2008 to benefit over a dozen animal shelters. Last year, six animal shelters participated: Calvert Animal Welfare League, Patuxent Animal Welfare Society, Humane Society of Calvert County, Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Maryland, Greyt Expectations Grey Hound Rescue, Second Hope Rescue. These organizations sent representatives, volunteers and dogs available for adoption.
Heather Maertens cares deeply about animals and has created two pieces of jewelry to benefit local animal shelters: The Puppy Love and The Shelter Dog.
The Puppy Love collection features a heart with a dog bone in the center. The collection features pendants, charms, earrings and a bracelet. Proceeds from the Puppy Love collection benefit the Humane Society of Calvert County.
The Shelter Dog collection features a dog silhouette with a star. The Shelter Dog is available in two sizes, in sterling silver, two tone, or 14kt yellow gold. The Shelter Dog benefits various animal shelters, currently, fifteen percent of the proceeds go to benefit Calvert Animal Welfare League.
Heather has rallied the support of many local businesses to make Breakfast at Sniffany’s possible, including the Showplace Arena, Holiday Inn Select Solomons, Isaac’s Restaurant, Chesapeake Beach Hotel and Spa, Captain Smith’s Seafood and Heather’s own Maertens Fine Jewelry & Gifts. So many businesses, artists and community members gave their support to Breakfast at Sniffany’s through sponsorships, by donating items for the auction and purchasing ads in the event program.
