Chesapeake
Bay Blue Heron
The
Chesapeake Bay Blue Heron Project was organized by St.
Mary’s Public Schools. Involving all of the public
schools in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, each school
was given the opportunity to design a theme for and
decorate a 6” fiberglass heron statue. The herons were
sponsored by local businesses and found permanent
homes in prominent locations around St. Mary’s County.
To commemorate the project, Heather Maertens created a
Heron miniature to be worn as a pin or a pendant. She
carved a wax and the seahorse was cast in precious
metals. Because the heron was carved in two pieces,
the heron is able to be cast in different combinations
of 14kt white or yellow gold and sterling silver.
Fifteen percent of the proceeds for each sale are
donated to the Chesapeake Bay Blue Heron Project.
Pictured is the our
14k with diamonds version.
