The United Way of Calvert County's Mardi Gras
Lights! Camera! Action! United Way of Calvert County’s Mardi Gras celebration is Southern Maryland’s exclusive red carpet event, continuing to attract glamorous costumed revelers out to dance and dine the night away along the streets of New Orleans at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Live music by the Junkyard Saints…antics of jugglers, magicians and mimes…spellbinding belly dancers…gourmet Cajun and Creole cuisine from Maryland Country Caterers…elaborate King and Queen crowning ceremony…live and silent auction and Maertens Fine Jewelry & Gifts' Razzle Dazzle Raffle are all a part of the maelstrom of magic and mayhem that is Mardi Gras. The Maertens generously donate a tent full of designer jewelry, gorgeous handbags, hand blown glass and other goodies. Last year's loot was valued at over $9,000. Breakfast at Sniffany's
Breakfast at Sniffany’s was founded by Heather Maertens. The event is a carefree brunch featuring food from local restaurants. Breakfast at Sniffany's also features a doggie treat buffet, a silent auction and raffle. Breakfast at Sniffany’s has raised over $10,000 to date to benefit Southern Maryland Animal Shelters. Heather has rallied the support of many local businesses to make this event possible, including the Showplace Arena, Holiday Inn Select Solomons, Isaac’s Restaurant, Kim’s Key Lime Pies, Chesapeake Beach Hotel and Spa, Captain Smith’s Seafood and Heather’s own Maertens Fine Jewelry & Gifts. Heather Maertens cares deeply about animals and has created two pieces of jewelry to benefit local animal shelters: The Puppy Love and The Shelter Dog. In addition to Breakfast at Sniffany’s, Heather Maertens hosts Dog Day Afternoon at Maertens on the Island, a fun day for dogs and their owners to come out for a good cause.
